Georgina first performed with CHTC in the 2004
Town Show, Happy as a Sandbag. Playing an evacuee, she sang
her first ever solo, ‘The White Cliffs of
Dover’.
Georgina says "thank you David and Paul for choosing me .... after that, I
pestered my mum to take me to auditions and get dance lessons, and the fun has
never stopped".
She went on to play the Mock Turtle of the 2005 Childrens Theatre
production of Alice, and
Chris in the 2006 production of
Scheherazade.
Georgina says
"I had some great times with the Children's Theatre under the
direction of Lynette Gridley (who taught me loads). I remember being the
Mock turtle In Alice. I was ill and didn't make the dress
rehearsal. Jaz Waddell was set to take my place but I did it in the
end and loved every minute. You couldn’t see how pale I was under the
green paint!"
Meanwhile, her performing talent had been spotted outside Hungerford (more of which below) and she
joined the cast of a number of productions, including one in London’s West End.
However,
In 2008 she was back with the Children's Theatre in the title role of Roald Dahl’s
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Away from CHTC, Georgina
attended Stagecoach in Newbury for five years from the age of 8 and gained a RAD grade 7 Ballet award with the Allenova School of Dance.
She is currently enjoying studying for a BTEC in performing arts at Newbury
College, and thinks it is a great course. She hopes to audition for Arts
Ed, Laines, and Guildford School of Acting when she is 18.
Georgina
has also built up an impressive list of performance credits around the UK.
First came the musical ANNIE!
In August 2004 she played Molly in Annie at
the Reading Hexagon. In August 2005 she was at the Beck Theatre, Hayes
playing the lead role in Annie. ln·October 2005
she reprised her lead role in Annie with the
Newbury Nomads. For this performance, The Newbury Weekly News review,
under the heading “Young stars in the making” said “Georgina is a
natural actress … very, very good". “Musical theatre is about to receive a
boost in Georgina Hendry ... who has decided to make it her career. Here
is a 12-year-old who has to sing the show stopper sitting on the floor of a
stage with a dog who, though extremely well-behaved, must have been a
distraction. She did it without a flicker, singing straight out at the
audience, holding long notes, every word clear as a bell.” (See Photo

In
2005-2006 Georgina joined the UK tour of the musical Chitty
Chitty Bang Bang, playing Jemima Potts at the Sunderland Empire.
Georgina says "Jemima in Chitty has been my favourite role, because I got to
fly in the car. One night it broke down and wouldn’t fly so we got stuck in
the air! I loved the Child Catcher and it was great fun being really
scared by him. Staying away on tour was an invaluable ‘life’ experience.
We were even tutored in our hotel rooms". (Pictured right is

The
same year, Georgina played the role of Louise in the UK West End revival of
Sunday in the Park with George at Wyndham’s Theatre.

"Sunday In The Park With George was outstanding and I got to
perform on a West
End stage with the most talented people I have met. The show won lots of awards and
it helped me to enjoy and appreciate the work of Stephen Sondheim. I have
never seen an Amdram production of this but bet it would be hard to do!!! Town
show suggestion?! "
Georgina played Dorothy in the 2007Christmas production Of The
Wizard of Oz at the Haymarket Theatre, Basingstoke. The
reviewer in The Stage noted that she "took the role of Dorothy with a confidence belying
her 14 years, working on an equal level to that of the other adult actors”.
 More
recently, in 2008-2009 Georgina performed at the Watermill theatre's ‘Matilda
And Duffy’s Stupendous Space Adventures’ and reached
the final of Reading's Got Talent, singing two songs from the musical
Wicked with her
friend Ellie Bradshaw. (Click Thumbnail right for a larger Photo of them
performing). Following a successful audition in 2009, Georgina was, sadly,
too young to perform in
His
dark Materials at Oxford Playhouse. However, in August Georgina was a lead dancer
and soloist for the Wyvern Theatre summer youth project,
Boogie Nights.
(Photo left). Over a period of just two weeks, the youth cast
rehearsed and then staged the musical in the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon.
There were standing ovations every night of the six shows. In October 2009
Georgie was also on stage as Consuela in the Newbury Nomads production of
West Side Story.
Oh Yes She Is! - Georgie joined the
adult cast of the professional Newbury Pantomime for the Christmas season
2009/10 as part of the ensemble for Puss In Boots.
Having worked with them as a panto babe on previous occasions, she was very
flattered to be asked. There were 2 weeks of rehearsals in London before
the show opened at the Corn Exchange to good reviews.
In February 2010, Georgie attended TV auditions for the role of Dorothy in the
new Andrew Lloyd Webber production of The Wizard of Oz.
She performed well and, despite being too young to progress further received
very positive feedback. The judges said her "acting skills through song
were as strong as the trained girls and they would pay to watch her in five
years time". Later on, in mid April Georgie received the good news
that she had been cast as Carmen in musical
Fame. This will be at The New Theatre Oxford for their summer
youth project.
Says Georgina "I wouldn’t have done all the things I have done if it
wasn’t for The Community of Hungerford Theatre Company giving me the bug and I
have made many friends in the process".
We will keep this page updated with Georgina's progress and wish her the best of luck
for the future.
