The Love Nest A Farcical Comedy in Two Acts by Raymond HopkinsTyson The Mouse

Love Nest Cast & Author - Click for larger pictureThis successful production ran on 28th - 30th May, 2009 at the Croft Hall in Hungerford.  The packed audiences again enjoyed laughing throughout this very funny play.

As he did last year Raymond Hopkins, the author of the play, joined us on the Saturday night (Picture left) and we were very pleased when he praised our production and all the hard work that went in to putting it on.  He donates his share of the proceeds to Multiple Sclerosis research (Last heard, he has raised an incredible £19,238.65. ) so we were again glad to be able to help such a good cause.

Some comments from our audience ...........

  • "Would you please pass on to cast and crew, a grateful and sincere thanks for a Fantastic evenings entertainment, in their production of ‘The Love Nest’.
Each member of the cast had got their character nailed down.  The director had come up with some innovative ideas!!  The sound and lighting crew (it was refreshing to see youngsters doing the job) were right on the ball.  The scene change crew were quick and efficient, so important to keep the play moving.
The set was wonderful and the props were (I’m sure it was a nightmare getting everything) great!   Front of house very welcoming.
All your hard work has paid off!!  We all left with the Feel good Factor, plus your royalties have gone to M.S. research.       Very, very many thanks "
       Raymond Hopkins (Author)

  • ".... we both found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening.   We are truly fortunate in Hungerford to have such a terrific group of players who put on excellent productions.
So, thanks again from both of us".   The Mayor, Elizabeth Cardwell and Town Clerk, Jennie Collins.

  • " Last night was so funny, we both enjoyed ourselves so much, actually we have not laughed so much in yonks.   Everyone was perfectly cast ...  if you were just round the corner I would come again tonight ... well worth coming to though. Break a leg tonight."

  • "Loved the show!  Very funny, great characters, best lines you've ever had ... it was really funny."

  • " Thoroughly enjoyed the show last night,- it was worth all the hard work."

The Love Nest - Action Photo - Click to enlargeDavid and Janet Thompson were deeply in love when they married thirty-two years ago. Their future seemed destined for marital bliss. That was until Janet’s mother, Marjorie, moved in with them. From that day onwards, things started to go downhill.

The relationship had reached an all-time low. In a last attempt to save the marriage, the couple decided to return to the guest house where they spent their honeymoon. The idea being that they would rekindle the lost feelings of warmth and affection they used to share, and live happily ever after. If only life was that simple.

The second honeymoon was doomed from the beginning. The guest house was going through a bad patch. Marjorie decided to come along and upset everyone, David was pursued by an over-zealous waitress, a frustrated newly-wed and an admirer from the past turning the whole week into a farce. Did true love win through in the end? Only Tyson, the mouse, had the answer.

This play shows just how much CHTC is a family-friendly organisation.  In the cast we had two sisters (Hoffi & Roushka Munt), Mother and Son (Karen & Tristan Ashby, together with daughter Lara in the stage crew) and real-life Husband & Wife (Paul & Jennifer Hyde).

Auditions: First Audition was Monday 16th March, 7:30pm at Herongate Leisure
The audition took the form of a "Read through " of the play. A second read through was held on Monday 23 March.

  • Rehearsals were every Monday at Herongate Leisure. Friday Rehearsals were at The JOG Community Centre. Click Here for Rehearsal Schedule

    • Tickets were £6 from Crown Needlework in the High Street.

    • Performances were Thursday 28th - Saturday 30th May, 2009 at 7:30pm at the Croft Hall in Hungerford.

    • In a close-run contest, the cast award for most responsive audience of the week went to the Friday Nighters.  By way of thanks, they all qualify for a 5% discount on their next booking at Sea View Guest House!

  • HELP found:
We needed help on front of house for the Friday 29th May and Saturday 30th May performances at the Croft Hall. Anyone who felt they could help John Miles, who was leading the front of house team, by being an usher or by selling raffle tickets -  their help was much appreciated.

Many thanks to everyone who turned up and help on the evening of Wednesday 27th May to put up the set for this production at the Croft Hall.

Again, a big thanks to all the volunteers who helped dismantle the set and remove everything from the Croft Hall by 11:45 on the Saturday evening, less than 2 hours after final curtain.  A fantastic job - well done all!
